Steve Buttleman will be bugling “Call to the Post” at the 2017 Kentucky Derby, and the wet conditions and cloudy skies aren’t going to stop him. Neither, apparently, will a leg injury.
Kentucky Derby 2017: Bugler will play despite injury
Steve Buttleman hurt his leg Wednesday but will wear a brace Saturday for the 2017 Kentucky Derby.

According to ABC News, Buttleman walked into a riser near the stage during the post-position draw on Wednesday. He hit his shin, which already doesn’t feel good, and ended up rupturing the quadriceps tendon in his left leg.
But Buttleman isn’t going to be deterred. Instead, he’ll be bugling at his 22nd Kentucky Derby with a brace positioned over his white uniform pants.
Buttleman will have the tendon repaired on May 9, which is when he is scheduled to have surgery.
The game, they say, must go on. As do buglers. Injuries be damned.
