The 143rd Run for the Roses was an exciting one, with Always Dreaming beating out Lookin at Lee and Battle of Midway down the stretch to win the Kentucky Derby.

Here is the full video of the 2017 Run for the Roses:

Always Dreaming had 9-2 odds coming into the race, and beat out Irish War Cry, who also sat at 9-2 odds. It was a good day for Always Dreaming, as he will be walking away from Churchill Downs $1.425 million richer. McCracken and Classic Empire were at 6-1 and 7-1 odds respectively.

The win for Always Dreaming puts him on Triple Crown watch, with the Preakness on tap for May 20 in Baltimore and the Belmont Stakes scheduled for June 10 in New York. Always Dreaming will try to join American Pharoah (2015) as the only Triple Crown winners in the last 39 years.
