2017 Belmont Stakes post time and positions: Irish War Cry starts in the middle
The Belmont Stakes will feature other top-notch thoroughbreds like Lookin at Lee, Epicharis, and Senior Investment.

Here is a list of the 11 horses that will compete in this year’s race: Twisted Tom, Tapwrit, Patch, Gormley, J Boys Echo, Irish War Cry, Meantime, Hollywood Handsome, Multiplier, Lookin at Lee, and Senior Investment.
The Belmont Stakes will be held later today at the Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y. The post time is at 6:37 p.m. ET, and you can watch the race on NBC beginning at 5 p.m. Fans can also livestream the Belmont Stakes on NBCSports.com.
Twisted Tom, who didn’t compete in the Kentucky Derby or the Preakness, will start out of the inside gate and has a 20/1 chance of galloping to victory. Tapwrit, trained by Todd Pletcher and jockeyed by Jose Ortiz, will begin out of the second gate. Pletcher also trains Patch, the one-eyed thoroughbred that will start outside the 12th gate.
Gormley, who raced in the Kentucky Derby but not in the Preakness, will race out of the third gate. However, Gormley isn’t the only horse in this race that skipped the Preakness after participating in the Kentucky Derby. J Boys Echo, Irish War Cry, Tapwrit, and Patch were the other horses that didn’t race in the second leg of the Triple Crown. J Boys Echo, trained by Dale Romans, will begin out of the fourth gate, and Irish War Cry will start from gate seven.
Like Twisted Tom, Meantime, Hollywood Handsome, and Epicharis didn’t race in the Preakness or the Kentucky Derby. Meantime will start out of the ninth gate, and Hollywood Handsome will start from gate five.
Epicharis, on the other hand, was slated to start from gate 11, but the Japanese colt was scratched earlier today. He didn’t go to the track to train on Thursday because he was resting from an IV he received for lameness, according to AL.com’s Mark Inabinett, and the colt didn’t get on the track Friday morning.
Multiplier, Lookin at Lee, and Senior Investment all ran in this year’s Preakness. Multiplier, trained by Brendan Walsh, will race out of gate 10, and Lookin at Lee, this year’s runner-up in the Kentucky Derby, will begin from the sixth gate. Lastly, Senior Investment will start the race from the eighth gate.
