A strong field of 12 — or 13 — will break from the gates Saturday at the 149th running of the Belmont Stakes, though neither the Kentucky Derby nor the Preakness winner will be present. Meanwhile, Classic Empire, the best 2-year-old, will try to finally get the signature win of his 3-year-old season.
2017 Belmont Stakes: Time for post position draw
A large field will try to win the third jewel of the Triple Crown.

The post position draw will be held at noon (ET) on Wednesday, live from Rockefeller Center. The Belmont will actually be the third race drawn, so it won’t be exactly at noon, but you can follow along at NYRA.com. There is no television coverage of the event.
With Always Dreaming and Cloud Computing not competing in New York, Classic Empire is at 2/1 odds to win the Belmont, according to OddsShark. He’ll have to beat historic trends though: Just one of the last eight Belmont winners ran in the Preakness, and just four of the past 18.
Kentucky Derby runner-up Lookin at Lee is at 5/1, along with Japanese horse Epicharis. The newcomer won his first four races before finishing second in the UAE Derby.
Other familiar names slated to run in the Belmont include Irish War Cry, Senior Investment, Tapwrit, and the one-eyed horse, Patch. Gormley is not yet confirmed to run but is probable for the race.
The Belmont Stakes will go to post at about 6:47 p.m. ET on Saturday. You can watch live on NBC.
