O.J. Simpson is questioned by parole board member wearing a Chiefs tie

That’s an interesting tie selection for this particular hearing.

O.J. Simpson was granted parole at a hearing stemming from a kidnapping and armed robbery conviction in 2008 took place on Thursday in Nevada. However, before the decision, one thing stuck out that made everybody forget about the hearing taking place, even for a moment.

Parole board member Adam Endel questioned Simpson during the hearing, wearing a Kansas City Chiefs tie:

As he told the Kansas City Star, Endel wore the tie for his friends watching at home, and not Simpson.

“It was one of those little things I figured someone might spot from Kansas City,” he said. “But I didn’t realize it was going to blow up that much. It’s crazy now.”

Endel grew up an hour east of Kansas City, and to no surprise, grew up a big fan of the Chiefs and Royals. He’s been in Nevada since 1989.

“If you saw my office, it’s covered in Royals and Chiefs stuff,” he said.

Endel’s tie wasn’t the only piece of sports gear we had at the hearing. Bruce Fromong, O.J.’s robbery victim, wore a Heisman Trophy t-shirt to the hearing.

The Chiefs were impressed with the tie selection, just as one might have expected:

During his career, Simpson was 2-3 against the Chiefs. He lost the first three, but he won the last two with a couple of great rushing performances with at least 130 yards and two touchdowns. But that’s neither here nor there.

It’s probably not a good idea to wear an NFL tie to a parole hearing, whether you’re seeking parole or determining somebody else’s fate.

“I realize some people are going to be upset I wore a Chiefs tie,” he said. “That’s OK. They can be upset.”

It is a good tie, though.
