Martellus Bennett spent the night in the Lambeau Field locker room

“I hope there aren’t any ghosts hiding with the Packers.”

Martellus Bennett’s first day of training camp with the Green Bay Packers was Wednesday, but the veteran tight end showed up a little early when he drove up from his Chicago home late Tuesday night. Unfortunately for Bennett, that meant he got locked out.

In a video posted on Instagram, Bennett said he didn’t tell the team he was coming and the doors at nearby St. Norbert College — where Packers players are staying for camp — were locked. So his only option for the night was to find a comfortable piece of a floor in front of his locker at Lambeau Field:

Packers coach Mike McCarthy had no idea Bennett spent the night until reporters asked him about it Wednesday.

“I was here late last night so he must’ve come after I left,” McCarthy said, via Aaron Nagler of PackersNews.com. “I don’t usually check lockers for people sleeping.”

Bennett said sleeping on the floor doesn’t bother him too much, but he did say he was worried about one thing: ghosts.

“I hope there aren’t any ghosts hiding with the Packers though ‘cause if there are some ghosts that are going to come out in this locker room I need to get out of here,” Bennett said in the video. “I’m the only black person in this scary movie and you know the black guy has to die, so I have to recruit some other black guys.”

Bennett made it through the night ghost-free and was ready to go for practice on Wednesday. Here’s to hoping the dorms at St. Norbert College don’t have any ghosts either.
