Adrien Broner will try and show he can still hang with the best of boxing when he faced the unbeaten Mikey Garcia in a 140-pound super lightweight contest on Saturday. The card will air on SHOWTIME in the United States.

Adrien Broner and Mikey Garcia will headline a strong SHOWTIME Sports boxing card on Saturday. Here’s all you need to know.
Fights will begin in the early evening, live streamed on the SHOWTIME Sports YouTube channel. The main card gets underway at 9 p.m. ET and features a middleweight bout between Jermall Charlo and Jorge Sebastian Heiland prior to the headliner. Online streaming of all fights can be had via SHOWTIME Anytime if you have a participating provider.
Broner has won three fights since his unanimous decision loss to Shawn Porter in 2015, but the wins were over questionable competition. A split decision win over Adrian Granados in February does little to move the needle for someone like him, sitting at 33-2 for his career.
Garcia represents a big step up, or back up in Broner’s case. He’s faced competition like Garcia before, but many believe he doesn’t have what it takes to compete at that level anymore. Garcia is 36-0 and has 30 knockouts to his name. He’s heavily favored to beat Broner on Saturday.
While Garcia holds the WBC lightweight title, Saturday’s contest will not be for a belt. Garcia is looking to take the step up in competition like Broner, but he appears to have much bigger fights on the horizon if he can best Broner. A slugfest favors Broner, as they’re his favorite kind of fights, but if Garcia can remain disciplined, it is his fight to lose.
The co-feature will see middleweights Charlo and Heiland face off. Charlo is making his middleweight debut, as its a division with more talent and higher earning potential. He’s convinced he has what it takes to face the Gennady Golovkins of the world, but he’ll have to make it past Heiland in the world title elimination bout first.
