Ferrari improved its standing in the Constructors Championship with a one-two finish for Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen. More importantly, Vettel extended his one-point lead over Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes in the Drivers Championship.
Formula 1 2017: New points standings after Hungarian Grand Prix
Sebastian Vettel improved his Drivers Championship lead over Lewis Hamilton on Sunday.

Vettel had pole position for the race and he took it to the end for a crucial 25 points and a secure lead in the Drivers Championship going into the midseason break. Ferrari as a team picked up 43 points thanks to Raikkonen earning 18 in second.
Hamilton, one point back of Vettel going into the race, picked up 12 points and will now trail by a healthy margin. Valtteri Bottas switched spots with Hamilton on the final lap to secure third place and 15 points for himself. Bottas remains in third in the Drivers Championship, but not too far back of Vettel.
Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull lost out on a chance to improve his and his team’s standings in both championships when he had to retire from the race on Lap 1. Ricciardo was hit by teammate Max Verstappen despite giving Verstappen plenty of room around the first corners. Verstappen lost control and understeered right into his teammate.
Verstappen took a 10-second time penalty for his role in the crash.
Romain Grosjean became the next driver to retire, much later in the race, around Lap 25. There were no serious battles on the track at this point. Nico Hulkenberg made it past teammate Jolyon Palmer under Renault team orders, but most drivers were driving their own races.
The first set of pit stops came around Lap 31, with all but Verstappen coming in and rejoining in about the same place as they were before. Verstappen waited about 10 more laps before he did his pit stop, and after serving his penalty came out in fifth place, where he finished despite a late charge to try and take Bottas’ fourth spot.
He couldn’t get it, and took home the fifth-place points.
It wasn’t a great day for Red Bull, which had podium finishes on the mind for both drivers but ended up with both outside of the top four, with one of them out on the first lap. Williams missed out on the top 10 entirely with Paul di Resta, filling in for Felipe Massa, retiring from the race on Lap 63 and Lance Stroll sitting outside the points for most of the race.
McLaren continued its streak of scrapping at the back-end of the points standings, and managed to finish another race without cars retiring due to engine issues. Fernando Alonso finished sixth to pick up eight points. Both Force India cars finished in the points, a good finish for them after they both failed to make it into the third qualifying session on Saturday.
