The rules of the draw are simple: The 32 clubs in the draw are broken up into four pots. The first pot is reserved for the eight top-ranked league winners in Europe’s top-ranked leagues by the UEFA Club Coefficient metric. The remaining pots are filled and sorted using that same coefficient ranking, with Pot 2 holding the eight remaining top-ranked teams, Pot 3 the next eight, and Pot 4 the final eight. The pots were determined in the wake of the Champions League playoff qualifiers finishing this week, and the full list of qualifying teams is below.

The draw proceeds one pot at a time, starting with Pot 1, as the eight clubs are randomly drawn to assign them to the eight groups for the competition. Then the draw moves on to Pot 2, with the sole restriction that clubs from the same country cannot play one another in the group stage.

This draw will help determine the course of the season for 32 teams, and it’s going to be an event worth watching very closely.
