Rory McIlroy may be the oddsmakers’ slight favorite over Jordan Spieth to capture the 2017 PGA Championship this weekend, but Spieth, the most recent victor of a major after his three-shot victory at the British Open three weeks ago, is more likely to complete the career grand slam than his four-major-winning cohort.
PGA Championship 2017 odds: Jordan Spieth favored to complete career grand slam before Rory McIlroy
That, and other prop bets you can make before the PGA Championship this weekend

At least that’s how some wagering websites see it — even though they pick McIlroy to prevail this week at Quail Hollow in the men’s final major of the season.
Spieth, who earned the third leg of the slam with his Open Championship win, could on Sunday join the elite company of Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods as the only players in the modern era to own all four major titles. That gives him an eight-month advantage over McIlroy, who must wait until the Masters in April for his next opportunity to capture that elusive fourth major crown — a good enough jump start to warrant a 4-6 betting line (to McIlroy’s 11-10) at Betvictor.com and a -185 prop bet (to McIlroy’s -150) at Diamond Sportsbook International.
That means a $185 bet on Spieth would win $100, while you only need to bet $150 on McIlroy to earn the $100.
Phil Mickelson, who hopes to break his record of six runner-up finishes at the U.S. Open, will have his chance to do so in June at Shinnecock. BetDSI.eu has Lefty at +400 to become the first of the trio to achieve the slam.
The Costa Rica-based betting site also offers a number of other prop bets for which you can open your wallets. While going with McIlroy (+700 versus Spieth’ +885) to hoist the Wanamaker come Sunday night, the wise guys have them both leading the field after 18 holes (+1400).
Here are some other prop bets to keep you entertained before and during the PGA:

- Will there be a playoff: Yes +270/No -400
- Winning margin: from playoff (+270) to 8 strokes or more (+2500)
