Darren Sproles suffered a torn ACL and a broken arm on the same play Sunday, ending his season when the Eagles placed him on IR. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Sproles will have surgery on his arm Monday and on his knee at a later date.

Sproles was closing in on 20,000 all-purpose yards.

That’s some serious bad luck for Sproles, who was closing in on 20,000 all-purpose yards for his career. Sproles needed just 845 more yards, which would have placed him fifth all time behind Jerry Rice, Brian Mitchell, Walter Payton, and Emmitt Smith.
Sproles hinted in December of 2016 that 2017 would be his last season.
“I feel like [after 2017] it will be time,” he told ESPN’s Tim McManus. “[My family] wanted me to [retire] this year. I was like, ‘Nah, I can’t. I can’t.’ The thing is, when you’re chasing that ring ... you really want to get that ring,”
There’s no telling whether or not Sproles will be back in 2018. He’s 34 years old and will be turning 35 during the summer.
That’s old for a guy like him, but after being so close to 20,000 all-purpose yards, and thirsty for a ring, perhaps he’ll give the right contender a shot next season.
