This golfer swung so hard he snapped his club at a long drive competition

Wes Patterson’s broken driver flew into stands during a swing at the Volvik World Long Drive Championship.

Even as professional golfers become stronger and more athletic, you can usually rest assured that their equipment won’t break apart from the sheer power of their swings. Wes Patterson may be putting that assumption to the test, however, after splitting his driver while ripping a shot at the Volvik World Long Drive Championship.

Needing to avoid a broken bat at a baseball game is one thing. But avoiding the head of a golf club as it flies at you following a booming drive? Well, that’s probably a new one. Luckily, it appears nobody was injured by the flying projectile.

Patterson is unranked in the global long drive rankings, but he’s turning heads at the event with his big shot. So far, he’s already defeated World No. 1 Maurice Allen twice.

This may stand out as his biggest highlight of the event, though.
