Colorado led Oregon State by 28 points in the third quarter of their game on Saturday. When said game was over, Oregon State was the team walking away with a victory.

The Buffs opened up the second half with a 75-yard touchdown run to make it a 31-3 contest. That is where their momentum peaked and pretty much ended.
Oregon State scored 25 unanswered points to make it a 31-28 deficit, and eventually tied the game with 29 seconds to go in regulation at 34 after QB Jake Luton found Trevon Bradford for a 10-yard touchdown.
However, Oregon State had its extra point blocked, blowing a chance to go ahead by a point with 23 seconds left.
Luckily for the Beavers, college kickers are pretty limited in general, and Colorado missed their own 53-yard attempt to win the game on the last play of regulation.
The missed extra point ended up not meaning anything once overtime concluded.
On the Buffs’ 10th play of overtime, quarterback Jack Colletto was able to find the end zone on third-and-goal from Colorado’s one-yard line.
Colorado got off to a quick start on their turn in overtime, getting to the Oregon State seven in just two plays. However, four straight unsuccessful plays on down-and-goal situations gave the Beavers the comeback victory.
Final score: Oregon State 41, Colorado 34.
Colorado’s not quite a stranger to losing leads of four touchdowns or more in the second half.
In the past decade, it’s only happened four times. The Buffs now own two of those, with their other one coming against Kansas in 2010:

Kansas wasn’t quite Kansas in 2010. The Jayhawks were just starting that process. But they still turned to be a 3-9 team, and CU losing to them in that way was not good. The Buffs’ lead in that one was 45-17 in the fourth quarter. At least this time, they only led by a maximum of 21 in the final 15 minutes.
Saturday’s loss continues a rough stretch for Colorado.
The Buffaloes opened up the season 5-0, and were ranked as high as No. 19 when they experienced their first of three consecutive losses.
This month, the Buffaloes have lost to USC, Washington, and now Oregon State. Their upcoming schedule doesn’t get any easier with games at Arizona, and at home against Washington State and Utah coming up in the next few weeks. This is kind of payback, as CU got off to that 5-0 start by beating up on bad and struggling teams, including Colorado State, Nebraska, UCLA, and FCS New Hampshire.
Good news, though:
As long as they don’t blow another 28-point lead, it’s safe to say things won’t get much worse for them.
