Colt McCoy suffers season-ending leg injury vs. Eagles, which means it’s Mark Sanchez time

Yes, another injury for Washington.

Washington just can’t escape the quarterback injuries. After Colt McCoy stepped in for the injured Alex Smith, McCoy injured his right leg in the second quarter of their Monday night game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He underwent X-rays in the locker room, which revealed a fractured fibula. His season is now over.

You know what that means. It’s Mark Sanchez time for the rest of the season. Sanchez was signed on Nov. 19 after Smith’s season-ending leg injury. The veteran quarterback hadn’t thrown a pass since 2016, when he was a member of the Dallas Cowboys. He hasn’t started a game since 2015 ... when he was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles!

On his first play of the game, Sanchez handed the ball off to 33-year-old Adrian Peterson, who ran for a career-long 90-yard touchdown. That gave Peterson the 106th rushing touchdown of his career, tying him for fifth all-time with Jim Brown. It looked like the Sanchize magic is already getting started in Washington.

He even added to his legacy with a Butt Recovery Fumble before the first half ended.

But Sanchez couldn’t get much going in the second half. He finished the game completing 13 of 21 passes for just 100 yards and an interception. Washington fell to the Eagles 28-13, its third straight lost.

Sanchez was the last quarterback that Washington has on its roster. One of their emergency quarterbacks, rookie wide receiver Trey Quinn, was inactive with an ankle injury. Tight end Jordan Reed would be the next option.

The broken leg is a bummer for McCoy and for a Washington team that has been plagued by injuries all year. McCoy, who’s in his ninth season, finishes the season going 34-of-54 passing for three touchdowns and three interceptions. He started two games filling in for Smith.

The following day, Washington signed veteran quarterback Josh Johnson to back up Sanchez for the rest of the season.
