Good morning, Olympics pals. And happy Valentine’s Day!
Olympics cheat sheet: The halfpipe loves Team USA snowboarders
Here’s what you missed last night in Pyeongchang and what you should watch out for on Wednesday.

Find someone to love you like the Olympic halfpipe loves American snowboarders.
One day after Chloe Kim won gold in the women’s halfpipe, Shaun White returned to the top of the podium with an American flag draped over him. The 31-year-old U.S. snowboarder captured his third career gold medal (2006, 2010) by throwing down a top score of 97.75 during an amazing last run of the finals.
The U.S. picked up one more gold medal (THANKS, Shaun) to reach 100 all-time gold medals at the Winter Olympics.
- White added his third career gold medal in men’s halfpipe, as you may have heard. This 2018 gold will join gold medals from 2010 and 2006 in his collection.
- For the United States, it was No. 100 in the Winter Olympics
Who is leading the overall medal count?
The Big Four remain Norway, the Netherlands, Canada, and Germany. The Dutch caught up with the Norwegians very early this morning with more speed skating medals, but Germany then passed them both because LUGE. Just behind the lead pack, the United States and Japan are staying within sight.
Who are our new favorites?
- The U.S. women’s hockey team clinched a spot in the semifinals by defeating the Olympic Athletes from Russia, 5-0. Along the way, they managed to light the lamp two times in a wild six-second stretch.
- Let’s all appreciate Emily Sweeney for being tougher and stronger than the rest of us. The U.S. luger was involved in a scary crash during her event, but says she’s fine. That’s really good news.
- Not a new favorite, but reporters who want to report are always needed.
