Good morning, Olympics pals.
Olympics cheat sheet: Team USA had a rough night (except for Adam Rippon)
Here’s what you missed last night in Pyeongchang and what you should watch out for on Friday.

We need to talk, just real quick. You have your coffee? Good. You need anything to eat? OK. Let me make you some oatmeal. Just give me a second. There you go. Cinnamon? I got you.
So, fellow Olympianthusiasts, it wasn’t a great night for Team USA. Yeah, I’m sorry. In fact, for some of the best Americans in Pyeongchang, it was a real bummer.
- U.S. skier Mikaela Shiffrin finished in fourth place in the women’s slalom, the event she won in Sochi.
- U.S. figure skater Nathan Chen stumbled through a disappointing short program to land far, far, far down the standings ahead of the free skate.
- Lindsey Jacobellis also registered a fourth-place snowboard cross finish in her bid to finally win the gold that has eluded her in epic fashion in previous Olympics.
No, don’t worry, Adam Rippon remained a shining beacon when we had no medals to light our way. Alas, the lack of quad jumps in his repertoire means he has virtually no chance to reach the podum despite another wonderfully executed routine.
Who is leading the overall medal count?
Give Norway some ski events, and Norway is going to get itself some medals. The Norwegians built on their advantage by picking up medals in alpine and cross country skiing since we last chatted.
What are we going to watch next?

Who are our new favorites?
- Reigning men’s figure skating gold medalist Yuzuru Hanyu darn near melted all that ice with his fire performance in the short program. The 23-year-old from Japan made it rain Pooh bears and lit up the scoreboard with 111.68 points to quad jump into first place.
- The U.S. men’s hockey team got into the win column with a 2-1 win over Slovakia. Both goals game from Harvard forward and Boston Bruins prospect Ryan Donato. The 21-year-old has three points in two games.
- U.S. freestyle skier and Sochi silver medalist Gus Kenworthy injured his thumb, but not his sense of humor. Watch for him on Saturday.
- We already talked about the amazing rabbit-escaping-the-lion helmet worn by Ghanaian skeleton slider Akwasi Frimpong. But let’s also acknowledge this guy seems pretty fun without the helmet too.
- 17-year-old U.S. figure skater Vincent Zhou is the youngest member of Team USA in Pyeongchang. He also landed the first quadruple lutz in Olympics history.
