Larry Nance Jr.’s final dunk of the dunk contest was his best, but it wasn’t enough to get him the win over Utah’s Donovan Mitchell.
Larry Nance Jr. bounced the ball off the backboard twice for his final dunk, but lost to Donovan Mitchell
Nance saved his best for last, but didn’t win.

Nance bounced the basketball off the backboard, ran up and caught it, bounced it off the backboard again, and threw it down for the slam:
Nance made it look pretty easy, too. Earlier in the contest, he came out in his dad’s uniform, and did his rock-the-cradle dunk from 1984.
Unfortunately for Nance, he wasn’t able to win with the dunk. Donovan Mitchell came out with a Vince Carter Raptors jersey, and re-created a Carter dunk from the 2000 contest. It gave him a score of 48, and the win.
Some felt that Nance’s dunk was the better dunk, but not everybody noticed that he threw the ball off the backboard a second time until the replay. TNT’s Kenny Smith was a big advocate of Nance’s dunk, but the judges decided in favor of Mitchell.
If there’s any consolation for Nance, he gets to play with LeBron James. So that’s good. But Mitchell gets to go home with the trophy.
