Tuesday night’s women’s figure skating short program will be the first time American Karen Chen will take the ice in the 2018 Winter Olympics, but teammates Mirai Nagasu and Bradie Tennell have both already claimed bronze with their contributions to the team event at the beginning of the games. All three skaters will face some steep international competition when they begin their short program on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on NBC (live stream).

Two American skaters are hoping to win a second medal in Pyeongchang.
The first skater for Team USA on Tuesday will be Tennell, who is expected to take the ice first around 8:08 p.m. ET. Tennell skated in the team competition’s short program, finishing fifth (68.94), and knocking off the nerves along the way. She was a long shot to earn a spot in Pyeongchang, but as the winner of the U.S. Championships in January, she is definitely in contention.
Nagasu has already made plenty of headlines for her work in the team event, becoming the first U.S. woman to ever land a triple axel at the Olympics. She held nothing back, and the trick was breathtaking, as it helped get Team USA onto the medal podium. Nagasu’s real strength is in the short program, so she’ll need to make Tuesday’s routine extra special to give her a little padding heading into the free skate. She’s expected to take the ice around 10:52 p.m. ET.
The final U.S. skater to take the ice on Tuesday will be Chen, who is expected to start around 11:05 p.m. ET. Chen’s addition to the 2018 delegation wasn’t without some controversy, but ultimately, her third-place finish at the 2018 U.S. Championships earned her the spot. She’s not at the top of the expected medal winners list, but she could put together a score that ends in an upset for the rest of the field.
The free skate portion of the two-program competition will get underway on Thursday, Feb. 22.
