It will take a special quarterback to step in and turn around a Browns team that went 1-31 over the past two seasons. But Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield is confident that he can be the guy to do it.
Baker Mayfield is so confident he believes he can turn the Browns around
It’s a tall order, but Mayfield thinks he’s the guy who can do it.

The Browns have the first-overall pick courtesy of their 0-16 finish last year. They also hold the No. 4 pick, which they got from the Texans as part of last year’s draft day deal that let Houston take Deshaun Watson with the 12th-overall pick. That gives Cleveland two chances in the top five to land Mayfield if they so choose. If they do, Mayfield thinks he can win.
Mayfield’s certainty about his NFL future was evident throughout his time with the media on Friday.
Is Mayfield a franchise quarterback?
According to Mayfield, yes.
Good to know. But what if a team drafts him as their quarterback of the future? Well, Mayfield said he doesn’t have a “backup mentality” to anybody, per ESPN’s Josina Anderson.
What can a team expect from Mayfield if they draft him?
We’ll let Mayfield speak for himself.
Mayfield does have the best completion percentage, 68.5 percent, of any of the top quarterback prospects in this draft. We’ll give this one to him.
Is Mayfield kind of full of himself?
Not according to Mayfield.
He’s just telling it like it is.
And it’s not like Mayfield is only confident about himself. He’s also sure that former Oklahoma teammate Orlando Brown’s bad showing in combine drills isn’t representative of Brown’s actual ability.
The Browns have been looking for a franchise quarterback since 1999. Maybe Mayfield’s right. Maybe he really can finally be that guy.
