INDIANAPOLIS — Linemen are rarely in the spotlight during football games. So it’s just more of the same when their numbers at the NFL Combine are easily topped by skill position players.
NFL draft prospects share their secret talents, from skeet shooting to cooking
Not everyone can run a 4.3, but even the linemen who don’t shine at the NFL Combine are still the best at something.

Even the bench press — the NFL Combine’s strong-man test — can end up yielding disappointing results for linemen with long arms.
If only the NFL Combine let these talented athletes pick a competition that would allow them to class the field of players in Indianapolis. So I asked:
“What’s one thing you can do better than every other player here?”
And let’s not limit this just to football. Chess, movie trivia, cooking a steak, doesn’t matter. Unsurprisingly, there’s a lot of talented folks in the 2018 draft class:
Oregon OL Tyrell Crosby: “Kayaking. In Oregon, I kayak a lot. I also have film on Twitter of me doing backflips and stuff on trampolines.”
Arizona State OL Sam Jones: “I’m a better shot than everybody here. I’ll take anyone in that.”
Washington State OL Cole Madison: “If we had skeet shooting out here, I’d be first round, first pick, no hesitation. It’d be a no brainer. It’s all I did in college, just go out shooting with the boys.”
Note: A Cole Madison vs. Sam Jones sharpshooting contest is the Combine event we deserve.
Stony Brook OL Timon Parris: “One thing I could beat everybody at is sleep. I love to sleep. It doesn’t matter — mid-day, beginning of the day, night time — I love to sleep. I try to get it in as much as possible.”
Idaho State OL Skyler Phillips: “I think I could take some names on Call of Duty, for sure. I could hold my own there. Any of them, I’ve played them all, so any of them.”
South Carolina DT Taylor Stallworth: “Probably cooking. I can beat everybody in cooking here. Anything and everything.”
Ole Miss OL Rod Taylor: “I can dance better than everybody here. I got the big guy moves.”
Utah OL Leka Uhatafe: “I like playing pool. I think I’m confident enough to play anyone here in pool.”
Purdue DT Eddy Wilson: “Probably music. I play three instruments all self-taught, so I’m probably the best in that aspect ... Guitar, piano and drum set. I just enjoy playing instruments. I just taught myself guitar two years ago, because I was interested in it.”
