The second leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown is here, with the 143rd running of the Preakness Stakes on Saturday at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.
The Preakness is the big showcase of Saturday, and will start at approximately 6:48 p.m. ET, but there are a total of 14 races at Pimlico for a second straight day. On Friday the main thrust was the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes, where Red Ruby bested other three-year-old fillies.
Justify will try to become the first horse in three years to win the first two races in the Triple Crown, and among his competition on Saturday at the Preakness is Good Magic, the runner-up two weeks ago at the Kentucky Derby. Justify is the overwhelming favorite to win the Preakness at 4/9 odds, meaning it would take a $225 bet to win $100. Good Magic is next at 13/4 odds.
A $1.5 million purse is up for grabs for the Preakness, but among the other races on Saturday include the $250,000 Dixie Stakes (a Grade II race), the $200,000 Chick Lang Stakes, the $150,000 Gallorette Stakes (aka “The Run for the Chalice”) and the $150,000 Maryland Sprint Stakes.
The first race is set for 10:30 a.m. ET, and television coverage begins on NBCSN from 2:30 to 5 p.m., followed by NBC grabbing the broadcast baton until 7 p.m. ET. Online streaming all day is available through NBCSports.com as well as the NBC Sports app.
