Two rain delays, vibration and a bad tire pressure sensor led to James Hinchcliffe missing out on the Indianapolis 500. A fan favorite and one of the top drivers, Hinchcliffe was not in the top 33 after the first day of qualifying. Now, onto “Pole Day” on Sunday, where the starting grid will be determined with another round of qualifying.

That round be broadcast by ABC beginning at 4 p.m. ET and ending once all the positions have been set. Live streaming can be had via WatchESPN (from 2:30 p.m. when the track opens), as well as ABC and fuboTV in the proper markets.
In addition to being split out across two days, Indy 500 qualifying also has two separate groups competing on Sunday. The first are the nine drivers who set the fastest times on Saturday — the Fast Nine — going at it on a four-lap shootout to determine spots 1-9 on the grid.
The second include those who qualified 10-33 on Day 1. Their times will be wiped and they will have another qualifying session to determine those spots on the grid. Hinchcliffe and Pippa Mann were the two drivers who did not make the Top 33 cut on Saturday.
There are those who ignorantly blamed Mann for Hinchcliffe’s ousting, saying her staying out on the track led to Hinchcliffe not being able to get out and set a time. This is false, and Hinchcliffe himself was quick to point that out.
“I just want to first start off by saying, I haven’t been on the internet, heard anything myself, but I’ve heard some stuff from other people. This is in no way Pippa Mann’s fault,” Hinchcliffe said. “This is our fault. If there’s anybody out there that has anything bad to say about that, you don’t know motorsports. Keep your mouth shut.”
Danica Patrick was ninth-fastest on Saturday, so has a shot at pole position for the race. The top nine from Saturday, in order, were: Helio Castroneves, Ed Carpenter, Simon Pagenaud, Will Power, Sebastien Bourdais, Spencer Pigot, Josef Newgarden, Scott DIxon and Patrick.
