The 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 is set for Sunday afternoon, but as a palate cleanser for the weekend we first have Carb Day on Friday, the final practice before the big race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The public gates in Indy open at 8 a.m. ET with several events throughout the day. Television coverage on NBCSN begins at 11 a.m. and runs for 3½ hours, highlighting the Indianapolis 500 practice, the Indy Lights Freedom 100 race, and the Pit Stop Challenge.
This is the 16th Freedom 100, a 40-lap race around the big track as part of the Indy Lights series, won last year by Matheus Leist.

James Hincliffe failed to qualify for the Indianapolis 500, and team owner Roger Penske proposed a solution to keep popular drivers in the race, per the Associated Press:
Hinchcliffe is also one of the faces of IndyCar, not to mention engine supplier Honda and several other sponsors, and commercials featuring him continued to air even after he missed the field.
“I think we need to step back and look at this and be sure that people who commit for a full season know they have a place in the Indy 500,” Penske said, “because the world has changed.”
