Jimmy G struggling and more NFL minicamp moments

Thursday’s Rise ‘n Grind takes a look at minicamps around the league and the top headlines from Jimmy Garoppolo struggling to Carson Wentz’s recovery.

With minicamps underway for most of the NFL, we’re taking a look at some of the most exciting — and questionable — things going on around the league.

The Eagles

All eyes will be on the Super Bowl Champion Eagles this summer as quarterback Carson Wentz works his way back from a torn ACL.

On Wednesday, Wentz took park in a reaction drill at minicamp where tennis balls are thrown at the Eagles quarterbacks’ feet and they have to dodge them as if the balls are pass rushers. Wentz’s ability to paricipate in the drill is a good sign he’s well on his way to a full recovery.

The Giants

Over in New Jersey, the New York Giants took the field for practice and Odell Beckham Jr. was present and running through some no-contact drills. Defensive tackle Damon Harrison also had the media laughing as he greeted the crowd with a “what the hell you all want,” remark.

The 49ers

Jimmy Garoppolo struggling? That was the word early this week in San Francisco as Jimmy G “dealt with inaccuracy and interceptions.” It’s June, so these are growing pains that can be worked out and not (yet) cause for concern.

Meanwhile, the defense was able to impress with a number of “sacks.” Sacks are in quotes as these are non-contact practices. So, they’re would-be sacks, but no one is actually hitting the turf.

The Ravens

Lamar Jackson may be making Joe Flacco sweat over in Baltimore. The rookie quarterback has been making his teammates’ heads turn for all the right reasons. Wide receiver Chris Moore likes what he’s seen from the former Heisman Trophy winner.

“Lamar, he’s a freak. Just what he can do on the field, you can tell that he’s gonna be somebody special in this league,” Moore said. “Every time he runs I’m in awe because most people, especially a quarterback, can’t move the way he does so you just know that this year he’s gonna make some plays.”

As for some unhappy news, former first-round pick Breshad Perriman continues to struggle. Nothing has gone as planned for the now fourth-year wide receiver who is entering a contract year after the Ravens declined his fifth year option.
