“I always prayed to God and told myself that I would play this game of football until the wheels fall off. Well the wheels didn’t fall off, but God has given me a sign that I just can’t ignore,” Chancellor wrote.
Sometimes we forget that athletes are humans, too. When you continue reading Chancellor’s statement, that human element comes across loud and clear.
”To walk away from the game by choice is on thing, to walk away from the game because of the risk of paralysis is another.”
Chancellor ended his note with a reminder that the game of football — and this sport that we often take for granted — impacts people far beyond the field. And sometimes, it’s in negative ways.
”Pray for your boy. I have no clue how these head injuries will go after the game.”
