Both Josef Newgarden and Louis Foster have been seen and released by the medical care team at the IndyCar Bommarito 500 after a dramatic crash sent Newgarden’s No. 2 Team Penske Dallara/Chevrolet skyward, before flipping over and coming to a rest upside down on the track.

The terrifying crash occurred around the midway point of the Bommarito 500, while Newgarden was leading the race ahead of David Malukas and Scott McLaughlin. Up ahead of Newgarden, Foster had brushed into the wall and was simply a passenger at that point, and he started sliding back down the track towards the infield wall.

Newgarden encountered traffic in front of him and cut to the inside. Which put him right into the path of Foster’s car:

Newgarden’s No. 2 Team Penske flipped as a result of the impact, sliding down the straightaway before finally coming to a rest, all while sparks flew and debris careened around the oval. Safety officials were by the side of the No. 2 Team Penske within moments, and Newgarden also told his team over the radio that he was okay:

You can also ride along with Newgarden on this onboard angle:

Again, both Foster and Newgarden were screened and released by medical personnel.

As you can see from each angle, the safety halo, as well as the aeroscreen, played a critical role in keeping Newgarden safe in this dramatic crash.
