Hannover vs. Borussia Dortmund: Final score 1-1, Late Diouf equalizer secures point for hosts

Mame Biram Diouf, just returning from injury, secured a point for Hannover against Borussia Dortmund with a late equalizer.

Hannover earned a point with a late goal against Borussia Dortmund to keep their home unbeaten streak going at 22 matches. BVB have yet to win away from home this season.

BVB nearly cracked Hannover’s goal after 10 seconds, but Ron-Robert Zieler was on hand to save Marco Reus’ header. Roman Weidenfeller had to make his own save a few minutes later to keep out a shot from Artur Sobiech.

It took 26 minutes before BVB unlocked the Hannover defense. Lukasz Piszczek sent a cross into Robert Lewandowski, and the Polish international beat Zieler for the 1-0 lead. The goal is only Lewandowski’s second of the season, but it may be a way to get him back in a groove after scoring 22 goals last season.

Weidenfeller will be thanking his defense for Hannover not scoring goals in the next ten minutes. Mats Hummels and Piszczek kept the hosts off of the board with goal line clearances.

Disaster struck BVB before and after the half. Jakub Blaszczykowski and Mats Hummels would come off with ankle injuries. Sven Bender would also have to be replaced halfway through the second half after picking up a knock to the face.

Hannover would find their equalizer in the 86th minute. Didier Ya Konan's bicycle kick ended up at the feet of Mame Biram Diouf, and the substitute beat Weidenfeller.
