Freiburg Vs. Werder Bremen, 2012 Bundesliga: Strong second half propels Bremen to victory

Bremen overcame a weak first half to win in Freiburg.

Freiburg started well and thought they were going to pull off their first win against Bremen since the early 2000s, but the visitors stormed back and walked away with a 2-1 victory.

The hosts jumped out in front thanks to a beautiful free kick from Jonathan Schmid. Max Kruse was fouled just on top of the penalty area by Sebastian Prödl. Schmid curled his free kick into the left corner of the goal leaving Sebastian Mielitz with no chance at saving it.

Bremen equalized in the 47th minute. A long cross into the box, and Marko Arnautovic played it back into the center. Joseph Akpala was on hand to get a foot on it to knock it past Oliver Baumann.

Aaron Hunt put Bremen in front in the 59th minute with a hard shot that Baumann couldn’t get to. The goal was created by Kevin De Bruyne who has been on an excellent run of form to start this season for Bremen.

Freiburg pushed hard for an equalizer as time was winding down, but it was not meant to be.
