Hamburg vs. Hannover 96: Final score 1-0, Adler puts on a show in goal

Hamburg concluded a fantastic week with a victory over Hannover 96.

Hamburg grabbed an early goal and held on to defeat Hannover 96 1-0 and conclude a fantastic week for the club.

Artjoms Rudnevs put Hamburg on top 1-0 after only twenty minutes. Ron-Robert Zieler’s goal kick was poor, and the ball was intercepted by Hamburg’s midfield. Rafael Van der Vaart played the ball into the path of Rudnevs, and the forward blasted the ball into the back of the net through the legs of Zieler.

Hannover almost equalized in the 60th minute. Steve Cherundolo sent a cross into the area, but Didier Ya Konan's scissor kick was just wide of the far post. They thought for sure they had equalized in the 75th minute, but Rene Adler stonewalled Mohammed Abdellaoue from point blank range to maintain the lead for Hamburg.

Adler made several important saves throughout the match to keep Hannover from scoring, and his name was chanted throughout the arena at one point in the second half.

The previous seven days for Hannover has been unbelievable. They’ve taken a total of 7 out of 9 possible points in a three match stretch against Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Mönchengladbach, and Hannover 96. Whatever Thorsten Fink has been doing in training is working.
