Nürnberg vs. Hannover: Final score 2-2, Polter grabs 92nd minute equalizer

Nürnberg left it until the very end against Hannover on Sunday, but Sebastian Polter’s stoppage time goal gave them a 2-2 draw.

Nürnberg grabbed an equalizer with the last attack of the game to earn a point at home against Hannover in a 2-2 draw on Sunday.

The hosts came out on the attack trying to catch Hannover on the back foot following their midweek trip to Russia in the Europa league. They looked good early and Hiroshi Kiyotake and Tomas Pekhart should have done better with their chances.

Hannover came back strong however, and Johan Djourou forced a good save out of Raphael Schäfer in the 38th minute. A little later, Hannover found a breakthrough. Szabolcs Huszti dribbled his way into the Nürnberg penalty area before ripping a shot past Schäfer to give the visitors the 1-0 lead.

Nürnberg pulled level just after halftime. Hiroshi Kiyotake whipping in a free kick, and Timm Klose was there to head it past Ron-Robert Zieler for the 1-1. Pekhart nearly made it two a little later, but Schäfer easily saved his header.

Didier Ya Konan put Hannover on top 2-1 in the 68th minute, when it seemed like Nürnberg would be the ones to find another goal. He poked Mohammed Abdellaoue's cross past Schäfer for the goal.

Sebastian Polter would be the hero on the day for Nürnberg. The forward got a toe on the end of a cross from Timothy Chandler, and the ball hit the back of the net in the final seconds of stoppage time to give Nürnberg the 2-2 draw.

The point pulls Nürnberg into 14th place, a full ten points ahead of the relegation playoff position occupied by Hoffenheim. Hannover are now in 8th place with 32 points.
