Rotnei Clark injury: Butler G has neck sprain, no spinal damage

Butler guard Rotnei Clarke received good news after undergoing an MRI following his scary tumble into the basket support against Dayton on Saturday.

An MRI revealed that Butler Bulldogs guard Rotnei Clarke suffered a severe neck sprain on Saturday against the Dayton Flyers, the team announced on Sunday (via ESPN's Andy Katz).

The scan produced positive news, as there is no damage to Clarke's spine. Still, his return to game action is still to be determined, and Clarke won't be participating in contact drills in practice for the time being.

Midway through the first half of the Bulldogs' win over Dayton, Clarke took a hard foul from Dayton's Matt Derenbecker and crashed into the base of the basket. Although he was able to move his extremities, Clarke remained on the floor for several minutes, and was eventually wheeled off the court on a stretcher. Clarke told his father that, while he was down, he thought about the paralysis situation of former Rutgers football player Eric LeGrande, per David Woods of the Indianapolis Star.

Clarke’s father, Conley, also told Woods that he thinks there is a chance Clarke could play on Saturday against Gonzaga, a scenario that has not been confirmed by team officials.
