Rotnei Clarke injury: Butler star cleared to practice

Bulter’s Rotnei Clarke will resume practicing with the team less than two weeks after suffering a scary injury in a win over Dayton.

Butler Bulldogs guard Rotnei Clarke has been cleared to return to practice, the school announced on Thursday (via ESPN's Andy Katz). Clarke's status for the team's game against Temple on Saturday will be evaluated on Friday.

Clarke, who suffered a neck sprain on Jan. 12, visited with a spine specialist on Thursday, according to a team trainer who told USA Today’s Nicole Auerbach that “everything looks stable.” An MRI that Clarke underwent following the injury revealed no spinal damage.

Clarke sustained the injury after colliding with the basket support at the tail end of a hard foul from Dayton's Matt Derenbecker in the first half of the Bulldogs' 79-73 victory over the Flyers. After remaining down on the court for several minutes, Clarke was taken away on a stretcher.

A senior from Verdigris, Okla., Clarke is averaging 16.3 points per game for the No. 9 Bulldogs after scoring more than 15 points per contest for two straight seasons at Arkansas.
