No. 5 Michigan vs. No. 9 Minnesota final score: Wolverines defeat Golden Gophers, 83-75

Michigan turned up the heat early in the second half, building up a lead that Minnesota was unable to erase, despite a valiant effort.

The No. 5 Michigan Wolverines bounced back from their first loss of the season with a 83-75 victory over the No. 9 Minnesota Golden Gophers on Thursday night at Williams Arena in Minneapolis, Minn.

The Wolverines withstood a Golden Gophers team that was red-hot from beyond the three-point arc for most of the game, shooting 54 percent overall from the floor to combat Minnesota's 50 percent clip from long range. Tim Hardaway Jr. made 7-of-8 field goal attempts for 21 points to lead Michigan, which led by as many as 19 points in the second half before Minnesota fought back to cut the Wolverines' lead to single digits with less than five minutes remaining just a few days after nearly erasing a huge deficit in a loss to Indiana.

Austin Hollins paced the Gophers with 21 points, while Trevor Mbakwe pitched in 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Michigan will return home to face Purdue on Jan. 24, while Minnesota will take on Northwestern on the road on Jan. 23.
