Gonzaga vs. BYU final score: Zags roll in easy win over Cougars, 83-63

The No. 10 Zags had no problems on Thursday night as they ran away from the outset.

In a game in which the disparity was clear from the outset, the No. 10 Gonzaga men’s basketball team defeated visiting Brigham Young for a 83-63 win.

Elias Harris scored the game's first points in the opening seconds for the Zags and it was a rout from that moment forward. By halftime, the Cougars were down, 40-21, and the second half found the Zags coasting against their West Coast Conference rivals. Harris finished with 25 points, and Kelly Olynyk led all scorers with 26.

Both teams have impressed this season, and BYU looks solid with a 15-5 record coming into the game, including a 5-1 conference mark. However, Gonzaga is clearly the class of the conference and they showed just how great the divide is between the leaders at the top and the next best. St. Mary’s is right in the thick of things in the WCC with BYU for the right to claim second place.

For Gonzaga, Thursday’s home win was a chance to right the ship after a heartbreaking loss on the road at Butler earlier in the week. The loss apparently took little emotional toll since the Zags came out strong at home against their top conference foe.

The Zags have to contend with the San Francisco Dons (9-11) on Saturday while Brigham Young travels to Portland (8-13) on that same day.
