The No. 15 Georgetown Hoyas continued their hot march towards the top of the Big East standings, upending the No. 18 Marquette Golden Eagles, 63-55, on Monday night.

The Hoyas' sixth-straight win was an important one, as the team sits tied with the Golden Eagles for second place in the Big East at 8-3. Georgetown overcame a poor shooting night and relied on their defense to guide them to the victory.
Georgetown's Otto Porter led all scorers with 21 points. He needed 6-of-15 shooting to get him there, although he was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Guard Markel Starks added 16 for the Hoyas, but also struggled with his shot, needing 14 attempts to get the points . As a team, Georgetown struggled from the floor, shooting 38.5 percent, including just 6-for-21 from three-point line.
The shooting woes didn’t matter much in the end, as Marquette struggled to take care of the ball. Marquette went into halftime shooting 50 percent from the floor but still trailed 33-23 because of turnovers -- 12 at half, compared to just nine field goals made. It didn’t get much better for Marquette in the second half, as they finished with 19 turnovers while making just 20 field goals.
Forward Jamil Wilson led Marqutte with 13 points on a perfect shooting night, going 3-3 from the field and 5-5 from the free throw line. Center Chris Otule chipped in 11 points, but the Golden Eagles didn't get much else help. No other player scored in double digits.
The second conference game against Marquette was a much better go-round for Georgetown. Both teams struggled in the first game on Jan. 5, with the Golden Eagles eventually pulling out a 49-48 win.
Marquette will try to rebound on Saturday against No. 16 Pittsburgh, who are riding a three-game winning streak. Georgetown will continue their push for top spot in the Big East with a game against Cincinnati on Friday.
