Nebraska looked like it was on the brink of a huge collapse against Florida State with just over two minutes left on Monday night. Star wing Terran Petteway was called for his fifth foul on a charge and a Cornhuskers' lead that was once as high as 18 points had suddenly dwindled to only three. That's when freshman Tarin Smith decided to hit the biggest shot of his career to seal a 70-65 Nebraska win in the opener of the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.

Petteway was the star for the Cornhuskers before fouling out, taking on the Florida State defense single-handidly throughout the night. The star junior finished with 25 points and five rebounds, but he also turned the ball over five times and needed 22 shot attempts to rack up the points. No matter. With co-star Shavon Shields adding 19 points of his own, Nebraska got the Big Ten off on the right foot in the annual conference showdown.

Florida State continues to struggle badly shooting from three-point range. The Seminoles entered the night shooting 22 percent on threes, and hit only 2-of-18 tries from deep against Nebraska. Guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes led FSU with 17 points and six assists, while Dayshawn Watkins (11 points) and Boris Bojanovsky (10 points) added supplemental scoring from the bench.

The win moves Nebraska to 5-1, while FSU calls 3-4. This wasn’t exactly Duke vs. Wisconsin but still a fun way to open the Challenge.
