NCAA Tournament scores, Creighton vs. Louisiana-Lafayette: Bluejays hold off Ragin’ Cajuns, 76-66
The Ragin’ Cajuns slowed down Doug McDermott in the second half, but he came through in the final minutes to close out Louisiana-Lafayette.
The Creighton Bluejays were able to hold off the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns in a 76-66 victory, leaning on Doug McDermott in the final minutes to advance to the NCAA Tournament third round. McDermott scored seven points in the final three minutes, finishing the game with 30 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double.
The game was close throughout the second half while the Ragin' Cajuns slowed McDermott down after a 19-point first half. Ethan Wragge kept the Bluejays ahead, hitting four of his eight three-point attempts. Austin Chatman was Creighton's second-leading scorer with 16 points, and he dished a game-high six assists.
Elfrid Payton led Louisiana-Lafayette with 24 points, but was inefficient from the field, shooting 9-of-20 overall. The Ragin' Cajuns struggled from beyond the arc, making just four of their 16 attempts from three-point range. Bryant Mbamalu had a brutal game, shooting just 1-for-12.
Creighton will face the Baylor Bears in the third round, set to tip-off Sunday.
