Virginia and Miami played the wildest college basketball game of Saturday

And that’s saying something, because there were 118 of them.

Virginia entered its game against Miami at No. 3 in the polls and as one of four undefeated teams remaining in college basketball. The Hurricanes had fallen out of the polls after losing three of their last five following an 8-0 start. On Saturday, the two teams met in Coral Gables to produce the wildest contest of the day’s 118-game slate. It ended in double overtime, with Virginia surviving 89-80.

Let’s start with Virginia leading Miami by 10 points with about 12 minutes left. Miami closed the gap to five over the next five minutes, and that’s when Hurricanes guard Angel Rodriguez decided to take over. Rodriguez scored 13 points in the final seven minutes and forced overtime by draining three straight free throws at the buzzer -- after Evan Nolte missed a free throw with five seconds left, Rodriguez ran down the court and was fouled by Justin Anderson with under a second remaining.

Miami looked like it had control in overtime, until Justin Anderson tied things up with a huge three-pointer:

Miami couldn’t get a shot off in its final possession. The Hurricanes opened the second overtime with a three-pointer, but Virginia quickly regained balance and built a lead it wouldn’t relinquish.

Virginia was led by sophomore point guard London Perrantes, who finished with 26 points and eight assists. Anderson (16 points) and Mike Tobey (14 points) also helped pace the Cavaliers.

Rodriguez finished with 25 points, seven assists and four rebounds on the night. Omar Sherman (13 points), Sheldon McClellan (16 points) and Deandre Burnett (12 points) also chipped in for the Hurricanes’ offense.

Virginia moves to 13-0 with the win. Miami is now 10-4.
