The 6 best memes of the NCAA tournament so far

There’s so much more to come.

We’re only one week into the NCAA tournament and chaos has already ensued. The first No. 16 seed over No. 1 seed upset in men’s college basketball history stunned the world and put a small campus in Maryland on the map. A nun accurately predicted No. 11 seed Loyola-Chicago into the Sweet 16. (Really, the South Region is just in shambles.) There have been buzzer-beaters, and an upset that sent a win probability map into shock. A lot has gone on.

Like always, Twitter has been Twittering by producing lovely content for us to retweet the crap out of. Shock, horror, laughs, joy, sadness, and everything in between is what that website lives for, and it’s been thriving one ridiculous UMBC tweet at a time.

It’s important to remember all of this has happened in just a short four days’ worth of content, and way more is yet to come. But for now, let’s reflect on what’s gone down and praise the heroes who have gifted us with beautiful memes.

In no particular order, here are some of our favorites:

UMBC’s Twitter account

Cocky underdogs who back up their talk make for the best internet personalities. Zach Seidel is the man behind the UMBC athletics Twitter account, and we talked to him here.

Here’s some of the best tweets Seidel sent to roast the many doubters of Retrievers basketball:

Jordan Poole’s game-winning shot for Michigan to beat Houston

Michigan beat Houston at the dang buzzer in the Round of 32. It was incredible!

Poole made the same exact shot in high school!

The game-winner went viral, and people started tweeting at Jordan Peele, the director of Get Out, instead. He embraced it:

And, of course, don’t forget that the entire Michigan team chased after Poole after the shot, since he didn’t want to be tackled.

Nevada/Cincinnati winning percentage chart

Nevada came back from a 22-point deficit to rally and upset Cincinnati in the Round of 32, and the game’s win probability chart went nuts.

So it became a meme!

(Yeah, I put my own meme in here. Fight me. Or better yet, fight dilly dilly.)

Sister Jean predicted Loyola-Chicago would make the Sweet 16 and they did

LEGEND!

Also, everyone thinks Loyola-Chicago is Gryffindor

Fair.

Purdue center Matt Haarms’ hair

He can’t stop fixing it!

Thank you to the internet and the first two rounds of the tournament for feeding us with sweet, sweet memes.

Keep ‘em coming, Sweet 16 and beyond.
