A’Shawn Robinson has Alabama, Texas official visits scheduled

The elite defensive tackle recruit is still committed to Texas, but will visit Alabama in January.

After taking visits to Florida State and USC during the fall, along with several unofficial visits, 2013 Fort Worth (TX) Arlington Heights defensive tackle A’Shawn Robinson will wrap up his official visit schedule on consecutive weekends in January.

The Alabama Crimson Tide had a visit cancelled at the last minute, but will finally get the 6-5, 300-pounder on campus in Tuscaloosa on January 18th.

The following weekend, the Texas commit will finally make his way to Austin for his official visit -- Robinson missed the banquet weekend back in early December, when the Longhorn coaches prefer their committed prospects to come to town, because he was out in Los Angeles visiting USC.

The Texas coaches have to be happy that they can get the final visit from Robinson before he signs in early February, as the last impression in recruiting is often considered to be a significant one. However, there have been rumors in recent weeks that USC presents a serious threat to Texas since the five-star prospect grew up a fan of the Trojans and reportedly enjoyed his official visit.

Since that time, conventional wisdom has held that Robinson is a serious threat to flip to USC and dump Texas, but that his mother wants him to stay close to home.

At this point, she may be the key to her massively talented son’s recruitment.
