Auburn Football Recruiting: Tigers’ Star-Studded Junior Day

Top talents from all over the Southeast will head to Auburn this weekend for junior day.

Auburn has been a force on the recruiting trail over the last few years, and that should continue in the 2013 cycle. The Tigers will look to get off on the right foot again as some of the top recruits in the Southeast head to Auburn for junior day. Here are some of the top recruits on the way to Auburn this weekend.

Von Bell, one of the hottest prospects in the country, is set to visit the Tigers this weekend. Bell is a safety for Rossville (Ga.) Ridgeland, holding additional offers from Alabama, Georgia, Texas, USC, etc. Bell has exceptional range at 6’1” and 190 pounds, yet he also plays with good physicality.

Also visiting is Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek High School’s Shaq Wiggins. Wiggins is a 5’9” cornerback committed to Georgia. And you know he can play, as 5’9 recruits don’t pick up offers from Auburn, Clemson, South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia without some serious game. Wiggins will also visit Alabama over the weekend.

New Orleans (La.) Edna Karr cornerback Noel Ellis is also expected. Ellis is one of the more underrated three-star cornerbacks in the country, also holding offers from Texas A&M and Florida State. As with all prospects from Louisiana, unless LSU offers, any school has a shot.

The SEC is famous for its defensive linemen, and Auburn is bringing in plenty of top defensive line recruits. Dee Lines of Muscle Shoals (Al.) High is an Auburn commit and one of the top defensive linemen in the Southeast. He’ll be joined by Demarcus Walker of Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood and Jay Ellison of Hamilton (Ga.) Harris County High School.

It’s hard to gauge the interest level of some prospects at this early stage in the game, but getting kids on campus early is important. Walker is thought to be a major Clemson lean, but it is still very early in the process. Auburn missed out on quite a few defensive linemen last cycle, including Leonard WIlliams, who chose USC, and Jordan Jenkins, who opted for UGA. A commitment from Ellison is certainly possible this weekend.

Perhaps the biggest star of the day will be St. Pete running back Ryan Green. Green has been extremely hot of late, adding offers from LSU, USC and Alabama, to go along with in-state offers from Florida, FSU, Miami, etc. Green is a solid 5’10 and 195 pounds with exceptional agility and acceleration.

Green’s interest level in Auburn is unknown, but making the trip to the plains has to be considered a good sign for the Tigers.
