Carl Lawson skips UNC visit, down to Tennessee, Auburn, Clemson

Who will sign Carl Lawson?

Carl Lawson is one of the most uncommitted committed recruits in the country. Technically a commit to the Auburn Tigers, Lawson doesn't speak much with the media. So it was no surprise when Lawson did not make his expected trip to see North Carolina on an official visit this weekend.

“No, he didn’t go anywhere,” his father, Carl Lawson Sr., told the AJC. “He had to do the SAT, and he also has some schoolwork for next week, so that would tough to fit all that in.”

UNC was considered an extreme long shot to sign Lawson, but the Tar Heel program has to be disappointed that he didn’t even make it to campus.

While one ACC school is out of the running, another is still very much in the picture -- the Clemson Tigers. Lawson recently visited Clemson and the Tigers are believed to be in solid contention for Lawson's signature come National Signing Day.

It's another school wearing orange, however, that is widely considered to lead for Lawson -- the Tennessee Volunteers. Lawson's visit to Tennessee went quite well, and like at Clemson, he'd receive immediate playing time.

But one school looms over it all, and it happens to be the one to which he’s committed -- the Auburn Tigers. Can Auburn’s new defensive staff sway Lawson when (and if) he make his final official visit this weekend to the plains? Lawson will certainly have some catching up to do with defensive line coach Rodney Garner, who was formerly at Georgia.

I’m not yet comfortable projecting the Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton High School prospect to any school. Tennessee insiders are very confident, but anything can happen on an official visit to a school like Auburn.
