Carl Lawson keeps commitment to Auburn, turns down Tennessee, Clemson

“This will successfully end my recruitment I am an #Auburn #Tiger.”

The announcement follows Lawson’s visit to Auburn over the weekend.

The 6’2, 245 pound Lawson held offers from all over the SEC and the country. The only school to which he was ever committed was Auburn, though he flirted heavily with many different schools, including Tennessee and Clemson, of late.

Lawson has an amazing first step, and plays low with excellent natural power. He is not the longest defensive end, but has clearly demonstrated the ability to overcome his lack of height during his high school career and at various all-star events. He also has some attitude issues that will have to be ironed out at the next level by the Auburn coaching staff.

Tennessee wowed the Auburn commitment during his recent visit, and Lawson skipped his planned visit to see the North Carolina Tar Heels. Auburn gets the last crack at the explosive defensive end with attitude issues, however, and I expect the Tigers to seal the deal over the weekenddespite Georgia Tech trying to enter the race late.

Auburn is looking for a strong close on National Signing Day, and that close may well include Lawson’s teammate, four-star running back Peyton Barner, who visited Auburn with Lawson over the weekend.

Auburn is also in the running for defensive tackle Montravius Adams and defensive end Elijah Daniel, who rate as five and four stars, respectively.
