Laremy Tunsil Names Top 5: Florida, Georgia And Others Make List

Laremy Tunsil’s recruitment is just beginning.

Laremy Tunsil is one of the top recruits in the country at any position. The 6’6”, 295 pound tackle out of Lake City (Fla.) Columbia High School holds offers from almost every major BCS program in the country and is a consensus five-star prospect. Tunsil is both a very good football player and a very promising recruit, with lots of impressive athleticism and plenty of room to pack on additional strength in a college weight program. After an impressive showing at the Orlando NFTC that earned him an invite to Nike’s The Opening, Tunsil stopped to chat with SB Nation.

“They made me work, they really made me work,” Tunsil said of the competition at the NFTC. He was defeated a handful of times, but did win most of his reps. “Devin Washington got me once or twice. He said he studied my film and knew my outside game was weak. I was like, ‘yeah, you got me on that’,” said Tunsil of the 2013 Orlando Jones High defensive end recruit. “[Jumbo defensive end recruit] Demarcus Walker got me once as well,” Tunsil said.

Tunsil is taking the recruiting process in stride, taking his time and evaluating his options. But like most recruits, he does have a top five. “I have a top five. Florida, Georgia, LSU, Alabama and Oklahoma,” Tunsil said.

Tunsil has already visited Florida and Florida State. He plans to visit the other schools on his list soon, but does not have visits lined up as of yet.

What is it about each of his top five that draws his interest? “The playbook. I want to play in the pro-style offense with my hand in the ground,” Tunsil Said. Interestingly, many would describe Oklahoma’s offense as a spread attack, though the Sooners’ tackles do play with their hand in the ground at least some of the time.

What else does Tunsil look for in a school? “The environment, coaching and education,” Tunsil said.

Tunsil plans to make his decision on National Signing Day.

Bud’s Take: Tunsil is nine months from his decision. He has a top five, but has not visited the majority of schools listed. I believe things are quite fluid with the moment. In talking with other recruiting experts, they feel that Florida and Georgia are the top two schools right now, because they are consistently in all of Tunsil’s interviews. The other schools mentioned seem to change daily. In my opinion, this recruitment is just beginning.
