Jacob McCrary Shines At Jimbo Fisher Camp

For the first two days of the Jimbo Fisher Football Camp, Jacob McCrary has put on a show. One of the top receivers in the recruiting class of 2014, McCrary stars for Miami (Fla.) Coral Reef High School. He stands in at 6’0” and weighs just north of 170 pounds. I caught up with McCrary as part of SB Nation’s coverage of the camp.

“It’s my first time I’ve been up to Florida State and it’s been great. I love the camp, I love the atmosphere, it’s been a great learning experience,” McCrary said. The coach from which McCrary is picking up pointers is Florida State’s Lawrence Dawsey. “Coach Dawsey is an excellent coach. I love how he explains it and breaks it down, so that you really understand what he is talking about. I feel he is one of the best or the greatest receiver coach there is and I like him a lot,” McCrary said.

McCrary has been working on a few things during the camp. “Going hard during every play, and to be disciplined. Don’t let anybody get in your head, and just do you and everything will be well,” McCrary said.

It’s working, as McCrary torched top cornerback Rashard Robinson during Wednesday’s session. Still, he was plenty complimentary of Robinson. “I did, but Rashard is the best corner out here,” McCrary said. “We went at it real well, we battled, I like him a lot, he’s a good corner,” he added.

For his upcoming junior year, McCrary wants to run better routes and help his quarterback out by scoring even more touchdowns.

McCrary currently holds offers from Clemson, Kansas State, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Ole Miss and USF. But he said that no school is currently standing out for him as he is still early in the process.

There is still one school from which McCrary is looking to receive an offer. “UM. It’s where I grew up. I would love to have one from Miami,” McCrary said. McCrary grew up as a fan of the Hurricanes and will look to earn that offer at Miami’s camp. He’ll also camp at Florida and Clemson.

McCrary carries a 2.7 GPA and hopes to bring that number up to a 3.0.
