Jordan Sherit Earns Florida State Offer

Florida State was the lone holdout of the big three in not offering Tampa (Fla.) Hillsborough High School defensive end recruit Jordan Sherit. That changed Thursday evening, as the Seminoles joined the Gators, Hurricanes and a dozen other BCS schools in asking him to play for their school.

Sherit was excited to work out for the coaches at the Jimbo Fisher Camp and show what he can do.

The big (6’5, 333 pounds) tackle followed up a strong performance at The Opening with another during Thursday’s portion of the Jimbo Fisher Camp. After, I chatted with Kirkland about his recruitment.

“It’s been great. Really great,” Kirkland said of his experience at the camp. “We come out here, buckle down and everybody is about business. Business of getting better.”

Mackensie Alexander, one of the top cornerbacks in the country, has been a tough recruit to follow. Out of Immokalee, Fla., High School, he rarely does interviews, and when he does, he seems to enjoy playing with reporters and having fun with the recruiting process.

Josh Newberg snapped this photo of Alexander clowning around with Florida State defensive coordinator Mark Stoops:

Jacques Patrick, a national recruit from Orlando Timber Creek High School, has has quite the off-season. The 6’2, 200-pound running back might not remain at that position as he grows, but the fifteen-year old has already shown enough to convince college coaches that he is worth an offer.

    Jamel James Visiting Florida State

It’s no secret that Florida State is looking to add another running back to its 2013 recruiting class. With the shifty Ryan Green in the fold, the ‘Noles would prefer that the second back be of a bigger variety.

Enter Jamel James. Out of Katy (Texas) Cinco Ranch High School, James is an impressive back. He is a no-nonsense runner at 5’11 and 215 pounds, and his physical style fits well with what schools running a pro-style offense are looking for.

One of the top performers in the Thursday night session of the Jimbo Fisher Football Camp was Joseph Yearby, a 2014 running back commitment to the ‘Noles from Miami Central High School. Yearby is exceptionally quick and smooth, and a natural at the position. I spoke with Yearby as part of SB Nation’s coverage of the camp.

Yearby was happy with his decision to attend the camp, as he said that “coming out here was a very good thing to do. Getting with coach Eddie Gran, doing the drills, learning, it was a good thing to do. [Coach Gran] shows you things that you didn’t learn before. I learn a lot from him.”

There were many impressive prospects at the Jimbo Fisher Football Camp. But one of the most impressive recruits in attendance, Christian Morgan, didn’t work out. The talented Plano (TX) Prestonwood Christian School tight end immediately stood out physically. He was on an official visit to Florida State for the weekend, and FSU’s coaches made sure to show him a lot of attention. Morgan holds offers from Arkansas, Baylor, both Arizona schools, Cal, Miami, Missouri, Florida State, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt and Washington. He is rated three or four stars, depending on service.

Recently, he narrowed his list to Baylor, Florida State, Arkansas and Ole Miss.

Davin Bellamy Moves Florida State Over Vanderbilt And Auburn Following Visit

While the Jimbo Fisher Football Camp featured many of the top recruits in Florida and the Southeast, one of the better prospects at the camp didn’t even bring his cleats. Davin Bellamy, a top defensive end recruit out of Atlanta’s Chamblee Carter High School was in town to visit, not to work out.

Three days after returning from Tallahassee, Fla., Bellamy was still glowing about his visit Tuesday. “It was great. Florida State was the best visit I’ve had,” Bellamy said, adding: “They are the front-runners.”

Ryan Hoefeld Favoring Florida State, TCU and LSU

On Friday, a new face emerged in the offensive line group for the Jimbo Fisher Camp. Ryan Hoefeld, a 6’3, 265-pound center prospect, made his way up from New Orleans. He stars for Brother Martin High School. Hoefeld performed well enough to earn an offer after the conclusion of camp.

“It was awesome. I didn’t know much about Florida State, but I loved it,” Hoefeld said. “We watched some movies and I had no idea about how much tradition Florida State has,” he added, speaking of Florida State’s 3D film often shown to prospects.

Freddie Stevenson Focused On FSU, Texas A&M, Penn State And Florida

Freddie Stevenson, a top linebacker recruit, visited the Jimbo Fisher Camp over the weekend. Stevenson plays for Bartow (Fla.) High School. He’s 6’1, 230 pounds with good speed, and can be described as a run-and-hit ‘backer. The various recruiting sites give him three or four stars.

Unfortunately for Stevenson, he was injured last November, breaking his fibula. The January surgery required a plate and pins to be inserted in his leg. The pins are now out, but when doctors remove them, they discovered that the cartilage in his ankle was insufficient. Doctors filled the ankle with gel, and Stevenson now says that he is close to 90 percent. He was officially cleared during the last week of spring football, but didn’t want to risk re-injury while his rehab continued.

First Coast Linebacker Recruits Daniel McMillian And Tyrell Lyons Working Toward State Title

Jacksonville (Fla.) First Coast High School made a run at the state title in 2011 on the strength of a tremendous defense. The stars of that defense include linebackers Daniel McMillian, a Florida commitment, and Tyrell Lyons, a Florida State commitment. McMillian surprisingly came to the Jimbo Fisher Camp over the weekend, and I had the opportunity to interview the pair together.

“I just came out here to show off my talent and game. It’s the off-season, so come out here and work out,” McMillian said when asked about his surprising decision to attend the camp.

In this clip, McMillian faces off against an unknown running back. The runner doesn’t exactly sell the route all that well, but McMillian does do a nice job to flip his hips, stick his foot in the ground and go.

I caught up with the 6’4 215-pound Falk to get the latest with his recruitment.

“It was fun. The nation’s best athletes are down here, and it was cool to work with coach Craig and coach Fisher. Intense. Good stuff,” Falk said of his experience at the camp.
