One of the top performers in the Thursday night session of the Jimbo Fisher Football Camp was Joseph Yearby, a 2014 running back commitment to the ‘Noles from Miami Central High School. Yearby is exceptionally quick and smooth, and a natural at the position. I spoke with Yearby as part of SB Nation’s coverage of the camp.
Joseph Yearby Excited To Work With FSU’s Eddie Gran
Yearby was happy with his decision to attend the camp, as he said that “coming out here was a very good thing to do. Getting with coach Eddie Gran, doing the drills, learning, it was a good thing to do. [Coach Gran] shows you things that you didn’t learn before. I learn a lot from him.”
One specific thing Yearby said that he plans to take home is to get vertical quickly on some of his pass routes.
A major draw to the camp for the young running back is the ability to talk with Gran about anything. “He is different. He is open to talk about anything, and most coaches don’t really do that.”
Yearby had been to Tallahassee once before, but he said that this trip provided him the opportunity to learn more about the program, though he already knew everything he wanted to know.
Yearby noted that he wants to study engineering or criminal justice in Tallahassee.
After a disappointing loss to Seffner (Fla.) Armwood in the state title game, Yearby is hungry to get back. As he looked into next year’s team he said that “we look real good and I think we’ll be back.”
Yearby visited Clemson the day before with teammate Dalvin Cook, who committed to the Tigers on the visit. I asked Yearby about the firmness of his commitment to Florida State.
“I’m solid to FSU. Real solid,” Yearby said.
With 19 months until National Signing Day 2014, SB Nation recruiting will do plenty of updates on Yearby in the coming year.
Last year, while playing in one of Florida’s most difficult classifications, Yearby rushed 283 times for 2160 yards and 24 touchdowns. He is listed at 5’9 and 190 pounds, though he looks more like 180.
