A’Shawn Robinson taking final official visit to Texas

After missing the Texas football banquet to travel to USC, the top-rated Texas recruit will take his official to Austin.

There are few things that a college coaching staff likes more than to have the final say in a recruitment, and that's exactly what the Texas Longhorns will get when 2013 Fort Worth (Texas) Arlington Heights defensive tackle A'Shawn Robinson finally takes his official visit to Texas this weekend.

The 6-5, 300-pound Robinson, who committed to the ‘Horns last February, took official visits throughout the fall, first visiting Florida State, then USC, and Alabama last weekend. The trip to Los Angeles occurred the weekend that most 2013 commits were in Austin for the football banquet in December, when the Longhorn staff likes committed prospects to visit.

He has maintained throughout the process that he is solid to Texas and communicates well with the coaches.

The coaches also made sure to stop by en masse at Arlington Heights before Robinson took his official visit to Alabama. Since Robinson and his mother have declined to do interviews throughout the process -- including Robinson refusing to speak with reporters after a recent basketball game, there’s little reliable information about how it went.

Still, conventional wisdom holds that the biggest threat to Texas is USC, a childhood favorite of Robinson that reportedly impressed him, drawing the lowkey Robinson out of his shell, a rare accomplishment, as the consensus five-star prospect is man of few words.

The word after that visit was that his mother wanted him to stay closer to home instead of going out to the West Coast. Robinson flatly denied that to SB Nation Recruiting when he was asked about it at the 2013 US Army All-American Bowl.

The Texas coaches will have their last opportunity to convince Robinson to stay closer to home as they try to keep top-rated recruit in the 2013 class committed to the Longhorns before the incredibly strong defensive tackle makes his final decision on Signing Day.
