Texas hosting multiple five-star prospects for Oklahoma State game

Longhorn recruiting has experienced a resurgence with the six-game winning streak.

Early-season losses to BYU and Ole Miss were starting to have a negative effect on recruiting for the Texas Longhorns, but a six-game winning streak that has the Horns right in the middle of the Big 12 title race has helped lure multiple five-star prospects to Austin for Saturday's crucial match up with the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

After visiting Texas A&M, Florida, and Ole Miss on official visits this fall, Lewisville (Texas) Hebron safety Jamal Adams, a five-star prospect, is finally set to take his fourth official visit to Texas. Once thought to be a Texas lean, the connection between Adams’ father and Gator recruiting coordinator Joker Phillips propelled Florida to a big summer lead in the Crystal Ball projections for Adams, which now sit almost evenly split between the two schools.

Interested in early playing time, the depth chart at Florida is still more favorable than Texas, but the on-field struggles this season that have raised questions about the future of head coach Will Muschamp and the accompanying surge by the Longhorns have led many to believe that a shift in Adams’ recruitment has taken place in favor of the Horns.

The other talented defensive back set to take an official visit is five-star cornerback Tony Brown of Beaumont (Texas) Ozen. Brown’s sister is a track star headed to LSU, so the longtime perception has been that Brown will follow her, as the Tigers sit at a cool 98% of analyst predictions for his eventual destination. This fall, the 6’0, 190-pounder who is a track star in his own right has visited LSU, Texas A&M, Ohio State, and Alabama.

The most high-profile visitor, however, is probably New Orleans (La.) St. Augustine running back Leonard Fournette, the nation’s No. 2 prospect in the 247Sports Composite rankings and a player so highly-considered that 247Sports rates him 101. A summer visitor to Austin as well, the Longhorns are still thought to be on the outside looking in on his recruitment, which is expected to end with a commitment to home-state LSU, with Alabama also in the mix, both schools the powerful 6’1, 225-pound back has already visited this fall.

Working in favor of the Longhorns is the fact that two teammates, cornerback Jermaine Roberts and defensive tackle Courtney Garnett, are currently committed to Texas in the 2014 class.

There will also be a number of committed prospects in both the 2014 and 2015 classes expected to be in attendance, as well as several top 2015 recruits.
