LSU Tigers suddenly a player for five-star safety Jamal Adams

A late push has seemingly launched the Tigers into the mix.

Throughout most of the spring and summer, the two major contenders for consensus five-star Lewisville (Texas) Hebron safety Jamal Adams were the Texas Longhorns and Florida Gators, but now the LSU Tigers are starting to seriously enter the picture for the hard-hitting, versatile defensive back.

The 6’0, 200-pounder has long held an LSU offer among his 40 or so college options, but his interest in the program has seemingly taken off in recent days -- he made the first visit to Baton Rouge that is recorded on his 247Sports timeline over the Thanksgiving weekend to watch the uninspiring late victory over current conference cellar dweller Arkansas, was visited by defensive backs coach Corey Raymond on Tuesday, and is planning on returning to LSU this weekend to take his official visit.

Joining Adams on that trip will be a host of commits and top targets, including Metroplex defensive back Edward Paris, a longtime LSU commit, and star Beaumont (Texas) Ozen cornerback Tony Brown, a longtime LSU lean. Could Paris, Brown, and Adams decide that they want to solidify LSU’s position as DBU by all heading down to wear the purple and gold of the Tigers and form an incredible defensive backfield in the future?

Several industry analysts now believe that could be the case, as for the first time there are now predictions that Adams will end up in Baton Rouge for his college days, a significant development after the Longhorns and Gators dominated the Crystal Ball predictions for Adams for months. In all, there are six predictions for Adams to LSU, including 247Sports LSU insider Sonny Shipp and 247Sports A&M insider Taylor Hamm.

With Florida head coach Will Muschamp increasingly embattled after the Gators missed a bowl game for the first time in years and Texas head coach Mack Brown likely on the way out, the instability at both of those programs has allowed the opportunity for LSU and Ole Miss to seriously contend for the signature of the star Texas safety.

A few short weeks ago, the Tigers didn’t look like a serious player for Adams. Now, with Crystal Ball predictions changing, the visits to Baton Rouge, and the Texas connections with Brown and Paris, it’s no longer so hard to see LSU coming out of nowhere to land a signature from Adams come February.

There’s still plenty of time before the expected announcement from Adams at the Under Armour All-American game in January, but ti seems clear that this is no longer a two-team race.
